She played street hockey as girls were not allowed to play ice hockey where she grew up. She also played soccer and basketball. One of her brothers introduced her to pro wrestling on television. She watched some WWE shows, but admits it was ECW that made a stronger impression after watching a match involving Beulah McGillicutty and Fonzie competing against each other.
